Amanda Hamilton‘s bold, unconventional approach to her craft has made her one of the most famous interior designers in Canada. Her studio intentionally avoids having “a look”, and tries to create spaces that embody the personalities of each individual client. Since we’re on a quest to share the best interior design inspirations with our readers, we need to introduce you to Amanda Hamilton!

Meet Amanda Hamilton, Interior Design Star
Hamilton began her career as an interior designer at Mckinley Studios. In fact, it wasn’t until 2009 that she struck out on her own and created Amanda Hamilton Design. The firm is located in Calgary, Alberta, but they’ve worked on projects all across Canada.
We won’t even bother listing all of the accolades Amanda has won since. But you should probably know that she was the winner of Avenue Magazine’s 2017 Top 40 Under 40 Award and the Silver Stevie Women Entrepreneur of Canada Award in 2017. Besides, she’s also been profiled by several top magazines such as Western Living, Style at Home and Domus and Homes & Living.
We’ve already told you a little bit about the studio’s focus on creating custom interiors. Moreover, their diverse portfolio includes private, commercial, and even hospitality interiors. Today, however, we’re putting their residential projects under the spotlight.
Stanley Park

This beautiful, modern design for a Stanley Park has quite a story behind it. The clients had lost their previous home in a flood and wanted a place where they could start from scratch. Thus, the interior reflects this quest for order and inner peace. Though there is a greyish, muted palette, with black marble and dark wood, the space is just airy and serene enough to give off a distinct impression of order.
Indeed, that balance is just as obvious in the hall and dining room design. The planet pendant adds a cool personal twist to an otherwise sober room. Moreover, the white chairs and the use of natural lighting in the dining room provide a much-needed touch of brightness.
Victoria Park Sub-Penthouse

Rather than a private residence, the Victoria Park Sub-Penthouse project is part of the Guardian Towers. These sky-scrapping buildings in the heart of Calgary, Alberta, were just the spot to create a chic, mid-century modern interior. And that’s just what Amanda’s firm did! Notice the unusual choices, such as the leather rug and the wool pillows.
Also mind these two details, which go even further with the Mid-Century influences. The orange armchair adds some real retro fun to the area. However, in the second area, it’s the mid-century lamp that truly completes the look.
Lakeview Residence

Finally, we have the Lakeview Residence. While the clients in Stanley Park wanted understated greys, the residents of this home were all about airiness and light. This is meant to be a family home, and it shows. Even the inclusion of the dog in the picture seems to want to suggest that this is a truly comfortable and personal space. We also think tiny Scandinavian style details, such as the yellow pillows, really help achieve this effect.
But the simple, Scandinavian interior design strategies don’t stop there. Just notice how the use of plants, art, and simple designs create an uncluttered space without sacrificing its personality.
