Santiago Calatrava was born in 1951 in Valencia, Spain. He is one of the Spanish architects widely known for his bridges and sculptural buildings.

In 1974 he graduated in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, Spain. In 1981 he established his own architecture and engineering firm in Zürich. Later, he open offices in Paris, Valencia, and New York.

This Spanish architect won important awards throughout his career, which established him as one of the greatest names in modern architecture. Calatrava gained a reputation for his ability to blend advanced engineering solutions with dramatic visual statements, in both bridges and buildings.
