The Pia Maria Raeder‘s art installation, called Sea Anemone – White, has been exclusivity produced for Galerie BLS and consists of three side tables and two sculptural pieces. More than 400 hours of work and 16,000 beach rods were needed to complete the contemporary design of the art installation. As Pia Maria Raeder said: “In my work on beech rods, I love the challenge of overcoming the contradictions in the material as I play with it. Natural beech rods are straight but combined at different heights, these rods take on a new form resembling a wave with shadowy reflections. A wooden rod, that is rigid in itself, becomes soft and rounded once sanded. The application of lacquer on the rods arranged in large numbers transforms the wood and underlines its movements.”.

The idea behind the sculpture art is based on specific processing in which the wood – a solid and hard material – has been sanded, cut, arranged and lacquered in detailed biomorphic shapes.

The juxtaposition of spikes in different length, one next to each other, is set to create an optic wave that seems to mimic on the surface’s natural movement of life and to inspire in the outlooker a realistic resemblance of nature.

The “Sea Anemone” collection of Pia Maria Raeder includes side and coffee tables, wall mirrors, a freestanding mirror, an elegant, enveloping armchair and two floor lamps. Every piece can be used as outdoor furniture, thanks to fiberglass rods that substitutes the original wood one while maintaining the unique shapes of the waves.
