Foster + Partners is a global studio for sustainable architecture, engineering, urbanism, and industrial design, founded by Norman Foster in 1967. Since then, he, and the team around him, have established an international practice with a worldwide reputation. With offices across the globe, they work as a single studio that is both ethnically and culturally diverse.

The approach

Sustainability is at the heart of everything they undertake. They audit all projects against global standards while developing bespoke strategies that drive their environmental agenda. To build sustainably they need to develop innovative strategies that have a firm focus on the future of the environment.

From within the practice, structural and environmental engineers, together with many other specialist design teams, work alongside the architects to develop fully integrated design solutions. Every project starts with fresh thinking, leading to a solution that is tailor-made to both site and user.

You can see some of their best projects here with Insplosion.

Apple Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Apple Marina Bay Sands is set to be a distinctive presence on the bay, with a 30-meter diameter dome that is a contemporary interpretation of the geodesic dome, using minimal material to enclose the maximum space.

Principal Place, UK

Principal Tower is the landmark apartment tower within Principal Place, a new mixed-use development on the edge of the City of London.

Four Seasons Hotel, USA

The base of the building is animated by creating connections across the site along with a sheltered winter garden that foregrounds the main entrance. Thus the project reflects Philadelphia’s great civic tradition of public spaces. Greg Vernick’s restaurant, Fish, occupies the entire northern edge of the building on the ground floor, responding to the city’s active street culture.
