Today, we are talking about Spanish architect and interior designers Patricia Urquiola. Her unique style is due to her dual creative citizenship. Born in Oviedo, she studied architecture in Madrid before moving to Milan and graduating from the Politecnico in 1989. For that reason, INSPLOSION wants to celebrate her bravura with PATRICIA URQUIOLA BEST PROJECTS.
“I’m not interested in the old meanings of what a bed, a sofa, or a bath is. I am only concerned with new and more sophisticated ways of living”, she said.
Her design philosophy is based on the reinvention of outdated products with a flexible and adaptable flair. Furthermore, her design projects are called “feminine and sensual”. As a result, she had various collaborations with renowned artists and designers, such as Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Piero Lissoni, and various museum exhibitions. Do you feel curious? Let’s begin!
PATRICIA URQUIOLA BEST PROJECTS
NEW MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL
The New Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona surely deserves the top position of our PATRICIA URQUIOLA BEST PROJECTS list. She uses colors such as grey and white, glass and metal elements– to recreate a sense of profundity and simplicity of the structure. As a result, it is one of her most famous projects, for sure!
The Missoni flagship store in Milan is another of the PATRICIA URQUIOLA BEST PROJECTS. PATRIZIA MOROSO HOUSE
Moroso’s art director Patrizia Moroso chose Patricia Urquiola to restyle her home and it could not have been a better choice for the project. Really simple and modest, it reflects the women’s eccentric spirit very well with unique pieces often considered strange versions or even factories’ “mistakes”. Take a look for yourself!
Born by the collaboration with Esé studio, the Faliro Loft in Athens is less eccentric than the other projects of our PATRICIA URQUIOLA BEST PROJECTS list. The former industrial warehouse – utilized as a studio and a home. Furthermore, it reflects a mix of Japanese style and minimalist design. Finally, the numerous mini gardens are the perfect addition to the interior.
SO/ BERLIN DAS STUE HOTEL
The SO/ Berlin Das Stue Hotel has private zoo access to the adjacent Berlin zoo and Patricia Urquiola couldn’t miss the opportunity to get her creative wild. In the boutique hotel’s public areas she tried to reconstruct the austerity of the building. Her special touch in the form of animal-shaped leather object – rhinos, hippos, buffalos – among her own style furniture. Yellow leather Patricia Urquiola chair – is the perfect choice for this place too.
