Milan Design Week 2019<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0celebrates the work and legacy of one of the biggest\u00a0Italian designers\u00a0Gaetano Pesce<\/strong><\/em>. The tribute is installed right in from of the Duomo: the UP5 & 6 armchairs created for B&B Italia, but with a twist that conveys a strong message. This original\u00a0furniture piece<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Italian designer Gaetano Pesce<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0became a statement regarding the treatment of women in a\u00a0patriarchal society, as well as the inequality of the sexes. This original\u00a0furniture piece<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0by\u00a0Italian designer Gaetano Pesce<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0became a statement regarding the treatment of women in a\u00a0patriarchal society, as well as the inequality of the sexes. The\u00a0Up Armchair<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0was considered the first\u00a0industrial design project<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0that had a\u00a0political statement\u00a0heavily implied to it, seeing as it also came to be during a time where women were starting to stand up for themselves and fighting for equal rights. 50 years later that same statement remains timeless when it comes to women\u2019s issues.<\/p>\n

\"Up<\/a><\/p>\n

The form of this chair is meant to represent the imprisonment of a woman to male prejudices, by having it heavily represent\u00a0a\u00a0female body \u201cchained\u201d to a spheric leg rest. This chair was first created over 50 years ago, and now it will be one of the main highlights of\u00a0Milan Design Week 2019<\/span>,<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0more specifically\u00a0Fuorisalone<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

As a tribute to Pesce\u2019s work and legacy, a special version of the Maest\u00e0 Sofferente<\/em><\/span>\u00a0was crafted with a height\u00a0of 8 meters high for the occasion of\u00a0Fuorisalone.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>This also features the chair\u2019s original form, embellished\u00a0with needles in order to tackle another relevant topic that\u2019s one of the most prevalent problems for women: the violence against\u00a0them.\u00a0<\/strong>These two pieces are currently set at the\u00a0Duomo<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0alongside a series of animal heads made from polystyrene and painted fiberglass and mounted on iron easels.<\/p>\n

Even though\u00a0Milan Design Week 2019<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0only started yesterday, this set has already been available to the public eye since the 7th of April, and it will remain there until the 14th, corresponding to the entire duration of\u00a0Fuorisalone<\/a>.<\/strong>\u00a0If you pass by the famous Milanese cathedral, you can take a closer look at this timeless tribute to\u00a0Gaetano Pesce<\/strong><\/em>\u2019s work.<\/p>\n
