Fala Atelier Arranges A Garage Into A Home For A Young Couple.<\/h3>\n

A young couple asked the Portuguese\u00a0atelier\u00a0to transform a windowless garage in\u00a0Lisbon\u00a0into\u00a0a bright, open-plan living space for them and also to set an area with a\u00a0parking spot for their car.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fala Atelier\u00a0is a na\u00efve architecture practice based in Oporto, led by Filipe Magalh\u00e3es, Ana Luisa Soares and Ahmed Belkhodja. Since 2013, the atelier has been working with methodic optimism on a wide range of projects, from territories to birdhouses.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Porto architecture studio<\/a>\u00a0was asked to\u00a0convert the 200-square-metre garage into a liveable space for the couple<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

“The project started with an unconventional request from an open-minded couple<\/strong><\/em>, within a very tight budget, to convert a windowless garage<\/strong> <\/em>into a house<\/strong><\/em>“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The architects’ purpose was to make this careless and grey house<\/strong> <\/em>a clean and white living space.<\/p>\n

In the kitchen, a marble counter is paired with a stainless steel work surface. And next to the counter, a circular dining table has taken its seat, or I should say, its five seats.<\/p>\n

To make the small space look bigger, the architects created a large open-plan living area.\u00a0All walls and the ceiling were painted white, while the floor was covered in polished concrete. They decided to\u00a0open up the roof to include skylights, and kept additional decoration to a minimum.<\/p>\n

Each of the areas within the open-plan living space can be separated off by thick velvet curtains.<\/p>\n

The architects introduced colour\u00a0throughout the interior by pot plants, soft furnishings and fixtures.<\/p>\n

“Along with the furniture, the free standing elements carry the flexible identity of the house<\/strong><\/em>, hinting its domesticity while punctuating the abstract volume with colour”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
