Fala Atelier Arranges A Garage Into A Home For A Young Couple.
A young couple asked the Portuguese atelier to transform a windowless garage in Lisbon into a bright, open-plan living space for them and also to set an area with a parking spot for their car.
Fala Atelier is a naïve architecture practice based in Oporto, led by Filipe Magalhães, Ana Luisa Soares and Ahmed Belkhodja. Since 2013, the atelier has been working with methodic optimism on a wide range of projects, from territories to birdhouses.
The Porto architecture studio was asked to convert the 200-square-metre garage into a liveable space for the couple.

The architects’ purpose was to make this careless and grey house a clean and white living space.
In the kitchen, a marble counter is paired with a stainless steel work surface. And next to the counter, a circular dining table has taken its seat, or I should say, its five seats.
To make the small space look bigger, the architects created a large open-plan living area. All walls and the ceiling were painted white, while the floor was covered in polished concrete. They decided to open up the roof to include skylights, and kept additional decoration to a minimum.
Each of the areas within the open-plan living space can be separated off by thick velvet curtains.
The architects introduced colour throughout the interior by pot plants, soft furnishings and fixtures.
