London Design Festival: Highlights from the most exclusive design events
Fifteenth edition of London Design Festival has already come to an end and like always it showed London as the design capital of the world. Let’s review the special moments and higlights from the most exclusive design events.
Villa Walala by Camille Walala – Textile designer Camille Walala has created a huge inflatable sculpture, titled Villa Walala, that dominates Exchange Square in Broadgate, a dynamic hub just behind Liverpool Street Station that is owned by British Land. “I want to introduce a sense of the unexpected,” she says of the Landmark Project for London Design Festival. “I think that, to turn a corner into Broadgate, and find a huge, bouncy, pink and patterned house will be hugely entertaining.
100% Design 2017 – 100% Design, the UK’s largest trade show for architects and designers, returned to Olympia, London from 20-23 September for its 23rd edition. The show welcomed hundreds of exhibitors and more than 27,000 visitors to Kensington over four days as the cornerstone event of London Design Festival, helping to foster relationships between some of the world’s biggest architects, designers, specifiers, retailers and developers. With the latest UK product launches from an extraordinary array of brands and designers, 100% Design occupies a crucial place as the commercial heart of design in the UK. With five distinct sections, Interiors, Workplace, Kitchens & Bathrooms, Design & Build and Emerging Brands, 100% Design is unique in its cross-sector appeal to design professionals.
Focus/ 17 – Over 600 brands at 120 Design Centre showrooms (as well as outside participants in Chelsea) come together at this authoritative design show to share their ideas, passions and creative processes. Key values of quality, craftsmanship and originality lie at the heart of the packed programme where visitors can see the results of design invention up close and admire the skills that shaped them. With 100+ events in six days, there are exciting opportunities to get a fresh perspective on the new season by connecting with top influencers at talks, demonstrations, workshops and discovery tours. On the main stage a stellar line-up of international speakers share insights at the Conversations in Design series. A natural home for creative expression, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour will unveil a breathtaking aerial installation by Cutture, bold pop-ups and new dining experiences, specially commissioned for the show. There is courtesy transport and entrance is free.
Decorex International 2017 – Decorex International is the UK’s leading design show and the only one of its kind in the UK for the luxury interiors market. Established in 1978, Decorex – now in its 40th year – is firmly recognised among the international design community as the trusted resource for high-end interior designers, architects, specifiers, retailers and property developers. Boasting more than 400 exhibitors from leading names to emerging talents, this annual four-day show takes place each September in the prestigious location of Syon Park. Attracting nearly 14,000 visitors from across the globe, Decorex 2017 will be exploring Collaborations as this year’s show theme.
London Design Fair 2017 – Launched in 2007, the London Design Fair has earned itself the reputation as the go-to trade show during the annual London Design Festival, hosting the single largest collection of international exhibitions, designers, brands, country pavilions, features and exhibitions throughout the festival.
