The Journey to Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai 2018
The path to Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai 2018 has been a long one. As an internationally renowned event on Italian high-quality design and manufacture, recognized both for its aesthetics and craftsmanship, the event has been carefully planned.
It had a «Road to Shanghai» phase, destined to make a continuous and increasing introduction to the event and its programme. The aim was to communication about the event, mostly on social media and with preview pictures of some brands interior designs projects. It was a successful way of keeping the general public informed of almost every move, make them feel included.
Also, there was such a build up on the event, increased by the preview event on 21st November. This preview was hosted at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, where the event is taking place. Designed to be a “before debut” event, with an opening ceremony with several public figures and influencers on interior design and manufacture sphere, both of the Italian and Chinese markets.

The categories for the showcasing remain the same as in Milan, Design and xLux. The first for its innovation and functionality, the second for its aesthetics and classic elegance.
From then on, on 22nd November, the event officially opened its doors. The programme for Salone del Mobile.Milano Shanghai from 22nd to 24th November is filled with diversified conferences with designers and influencers, exhibitions from the 123 brands and even a smaller related event, called Salone Satellite Shanghai.

Master Classes & Design Talks
This section was guided to those interested on influencers and top designers references. This year, for example, there is one class for discussion between three world-renowned Italian architects (Michele De Lucchi, Stefano Boeri and Roberto Palomba) and three leading Chinese designers (Yung Ho Chang, Liu Yichun and Furong Chen), on top interior design and architecture topics in both markets.
Design talks are an incredible opportunity for expressing opinions on key points of design or architecture, even debating them with key figures.
Salone Satellite Shanghai
As for Salone Satellite Shanghai, this talent promotion platform will return in this 3rd edition. With 39 designers and students from university and design schools, the focus will be on certain subjects. Such subjects are heritage, contemporary, new technologies, craftsmanship, exploration of experimentation, memory, slow design, creative recycling, cross-contamination and digital effects.
